We’re excited to introduce you guys to Zack, one of our recent additions to the team. We had the pleasure of meeting back in January when he first decided to join Creative Market and I can attest that he is both a gentleman and a scholar, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do for Creative Market.
I’m a Bay Area native. I have a 4 month old daughter, beautiful wife and a loyal Aussie named Iggy. I own way too many guitars. Some are autographed by famous people. Occasionally I’ll pick one up and play a ditty. I’ve been known to roll off the couch and run a half-marathon or do a Tough Mudder without training. I highly recommend training first.
I head up user growth at Creative Market. It’s a role that is part traditional marketing, part product development, part analytics and testing, and a few other things mixed in. Basically, it’s my job to make sure that lots of people find out about the site and are exposed to the thousands of awesome fonts, icons, themes, and other finely crafted goods that our community of talented designers have passionately created and put up for sale.
What were you doing before you joined the team and how did you and Creative Market “find each other”?
Before Creative Market I was at a company called BranchOut for 5 years running product, design and most recently leading BranchOut’s growth team. Last year BranchOut received a lot of attention for growing past 25 million users in less than 90 days. That milestone was reached by BranchOut faster than many notable websites including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
I met Bubs, Creative Market’s CEO through AngelList, a website where start-up folks go to find investors for their company. I was looking for my next thing and Bubs talked me out of doing my own start-up and to join the team at Creative Market instead. I’m very happy with that decision.
What’s your workstation like? Do you have any tools or gadgets you can’t live without?
I drive a MBP Retina, sometimes plugged into a Studio Monitor. I’m a big proponent of Adobe Fireworks, Sublime Text and Numbers. I don’t know how I managed before there was Dropbox, Chrome’s Inspect Element feature and my iPhone.
Do you have any go-to music when you’re working?
I tend to go for a lot of ethereal stuff like The Album Leaf, Tycho, M83, Washed Out during the day to day, but when I’m on a roll and have a tight deadline I like to bust out the metal. Early Metallica, Red Fang, Mastodon, The Refused. However, lately I’ve been listening to a lot of flamenco guitar music and Prince. My go-tos are all over the place. What are some of the projects you’re currently working on?
Analytics, Press, Marketing, SEO and a bunch of other stuff to help people find and buy great stuff on Creative Market.
What’s your favorite shop in the marketplace?
Gerren Lamson – Maybe I’m biased, but I’m a big fan. Gerren’s a damn good designer.

Life is short. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Have fun. Get things done. Enjoy yourself.
