St. Patrick's Day Coaster Design Challenge

Lesley Yarbrough Last updated: March 20, 2024 · 2 min read

Oh St. Patrick’s Day. A holiday filled with vague, yet fond, memories of friends, food, and generally lots and lots of alcohol. We may not always remember what happened, but we know we had fun and sometimes that’s all that matters.
Speaking of fun, we thought we’d tap into the merry spirit of things and present you with a little design challenge. Here is your mission should you choose to accept it:

Challenge

Design a 4″ (round or square) St. Patrick’s Day themed coaster using at least one product from Creative Market

. It can be a font, background, layer style, or texture; big or small, at least one item in your design should be from the marketplace.

How to Enter

Comment on this post with a link to your design and a link to the Creative Market good(s) you used to help create it. You can submit as many entries as you like and entries will be accepted until midnight EST on Sunday, March 17th.

Winners & Prizes

After all the entries are in, our staff will select our top three favorite designs. Each of the talented winners will receive $50 in marketplace credit and one of our brand new and delightfully green Creative Market t-shirts (modeled here by shop owner Simon Schmid, dogs not included).

Sound like fun? We thought so too. Here are a few goods from the marketplace that can help get you started.

We look forward to seeing all the awesome coasters from you guys! May you design, drink, and be merry.

  • I'm waiting on some server issues with my site, so I had a go: http://imgur.com/QYYCbC7 I used "whore" from the wood type collection: https://creativemarket.com/BORUTTA/2142-WOOD_TYPE_COLLECTION I also used "kebab", another font by the same author. In the mockup I used one of my own wood textures: https://creativemarket.com/DesignPanoply/541-Seamless-Wood-Textures-Pack-1 13 years ago

  • Here's my coaster, bit pressed on the time so I went with a comical approach :) http://i.imgur.com/ys1prEL.jpg Used Vintage Circular Badges Vector Pack by Design Panoply https://creativemarket.com/DesignPanoply/2235-Vintage-Circular-Badges-Vector-Pack 13 years ago
  • Haha @Derek, I like it! 13 years ago
  • Thats not a Shamrock its a four leaf clover which is a different plant. St Patrick used a shamrock to explain the holy trinity of God the father, the son and the holy spirit being three parts of the one God. So unless there is a forth part of God its the wrong symbol. Maybe it should be Mary the mother of God, if so would that open the way to a woman being elected pope. The four leaf clover is also the registered logo of Celtic Football Club so there is a copyright issue to be avoided. 13 years ago
  • I learned something new today. Thanks @TieArt! 13 years ago
  • Just wanted to say I love the fun spontaneous designs everyone came up with already! 13 years ago
  • Question, does it have to be universal or can it be geared for use in a major city? 13 years ago
  • hoping to do a few different designs for this. here's number one: http://drbl.in/gZwc used the natural & organic badges (https://creativemarket.com/RohitCreations/3211-Natural-Organic-Badges) 13 years ago

  • @Jen K no restrictions there, it can be focused on any city you like. :) @Kory Woodard love the design! And it's so very true... 13 years ago
  • Here's mine: http://flic.kr/p/e31os7 As a child of the '80s and '90s, when I think Irish one of the first things that comes to mind is Back to the Future Part III and Seamus McFly...so I tried to make him into a coaster. :) Lacking in design skills, pretty much everything came from the marketplace. I used the Classic Mustache Collection (http://crtv.mk/aW), Hat Vectors and Clipart (http://crtv.mk/mdL), Papers Pack (http://crtv.mk/f1C1), and Wooden Background Texture (http://crtv.mk/g0A). 13 years ago

  • My entry: http://unicornucopiae.tumblr.com/post/45384102917/stpatrickscoaster featuring resources from: Gerren Lamson - Metal Swatch Pack (https://creativemarket.com/gerrenlamson/49-Metal-Swatch-Pack), Lamson Sharpie Font (https://creativemarket.com/gerrenlamson/48-Lamson-Marker) Webalys - Seamless Leather Swatches (https://creativemarket.com/webalys/63-Seamless-leather-swatches-Jpg-illustrator) For those of you less familiar with Irish slang: Gat: “A pint of Gat is another name for Guinness. On that note when drinking Guinness, look towards the horizon so you don’t drink the head. And if someone asks if it’s good Gat, and you’re not sure how to judge it, simply respond with ‘sure look it. In use: “Give me two pints of Gat and a bottle of Bulmers.” Beyont: “is an all encompassing word for any place that isn’t the place you’re in at the moment. It can refer to the other end of the room, or to the other side of the world. Expect to hear a lot of country people question you about stuff you have at home, and they’ll use the word beyont when doing it. In use: “Would you have much rain beyont?” courtesy of Mark Fellery (full article here: http://www.worldirish.com/story/20363-35-irish-phrases-you-need-to-know-before-visiting-for-the-gathering). 13 years ago
